Maltings Pottery Cooperative – New Spaces & Openings
After 25+ years, our not-for-profit pottery cooperative in Wolverhampton is preparing for a new chapter.
Originally formed after the closure of a college ceramics course, Lorraine and the Maltings Pottery Cooperative has provided access to clay, community, and creativity for over two decades. We’re currently based in a Wolverhampton College building that’s been under threat of closure for several years.
Exciting News
After a long search, I have partnered with the Wolverhampton Methodist Circuit, and the adult college has kindly donated the pottery equipment. We hope to relocate to a deconsecrated church in East Park, with ambitions to help them to develop a broader craft centre and retreat, including woodworking facilities.
Up to now I have been running down numbers of Coop members so that I could fit us all into my own studio on closure. But now, although work remains to secure the venue and ensure a lasting legacy for clay learning in Wolverhampton, I can now welcome a limited number of new members for our final two terms, as I can offer space when we move.
About the Cooperative
Run by Lorraine Bates (Woodsetton Pottery est. 1985), the group includes:
-
Long term evening class students
-
Local artists/sculptors/potters staying connected
-
Former ceramics students without access to facilities
-
Portfolio builders preparing for degree courses
It’s a friendly, flexible, and supportive environment for those with a passion for clay.
