Exhibitions

Exhibitions are held regularly at Wolverhampton Art Gallery as well as other venues in Wolverhampton and the surrounding area. Exhibitions are often free to enter for members but occasionally a small hanging fee is charged to cover costs. Most Wolverhampton Society of Artists’ exhibitions are selected. The selection panels consist of members of the Society plus external selectors and change for each exhibition.

Speakers

Each month we hold a speaker evening.  Speakers are invited from all aspects of the arts and include: other artists, university lecturers, curators, art historians, art collectors, gallery owners, framing specialists etc. Sometimes members of the Society will talk about their own work, inspirations and achievements. Non-members are welcome to attend speaker evenings for a small fee payable on the evening.

Critiques

Membership critique evenings are always very popular and are run on a ticketed basis (first come first served).  We invite an experienced and respected artist or curator to comment on members’ work and give insight to where improvements can be made.

Wolverhampton Society of Artists can also organise personal critiques for members again with a highly respected and trusted individual. These sessions need to be booked and there is an extra cost associated.  To enquire about a personal critique of your work please contact [email protected]

Workshops

Workshops are held at least once a year and these give members access to teaching from specialists in various art disciplines at a very reasonable cost. Members who teach workshops themselves will often advertise these at a discount or with priority booking for Wolverhampton Society of Art members.

Life Drawing

Life drawing sessions are held on a monthly basis to give artists access to both nude and clothed models. Due to the popularity of these sessions they are only available for Wolverhampton Society of Artists members.

Summer Painting Days

Throughout the summer we arrange a schedule of days out in Wolverhampton and the surrounding area, so that we can paint and draw together as a group. Artists arrange their own transport (although lifts are often available if needed) and meet up at a venue which has been chosen for its aesthetic interest and location.

Summer painting days are a lovely opportunity to get to know fellow artists and sketch and paint in a relaxed and friendly environment. Non members are welcome to come along too.

Trips

The Society arranges trips to galleries and exhibitions for members and their friends. Recent tips have included Liverpool, Compton Verney and Oxford for a visit to the Ashmolean.
