Bec Broomhall
My work is mainly portrait based and inspired by quick sketches and doodles. Most of my references and ideas come from people and fashion, but also social media and the idea of the selfie. I am interested in our fast paced social media world that is constantly moving and changing; but also how people are portrayed – and how we see and feel about ourselves.
Sketches are drawn out on canvas, with an attempt to copy my every line; often with an interest in the abstract lines and marks that have been accidentally added or mis-copied in the translation from doodle to canvas. The results are often sketchy faces and illustrations, with bold lines and a reduced palette – yet strong and vibrant colour. My practice mainly involves painting in acrylics and sketching, and also portrait commissions.
