Anthony Clemson

I was born and brought up in Wolverhampton. I left school at 15, with my art teacher indicating that I showed some talent in art. Looking for a job which had an artistic and craft element to it, I took a job with a local printing company.

With an interest in design and layout, I was attached to the company’s in-house design studio, where I completed a 6 year apprenticeship. During my career I have concentrated on graphic and typographic design within the printing industry.

Now retired, I continue with my interest of painting with watercolours, which I am still trying to master. I find it a challenging medium which allows for sensitivity and a depth of expression. I feel landscapes are my forte, taking inspiration from sketches I have done or using photographs which I have taken on my travels locally and abroad. Some of my paintings have been selected for display at the WSA exhibitions at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

I attend a local teacher-led art class, that has improved my drawing and painting techniques. I also attend a life class, which has helped to improve my drawing skills and perspective of the human figure.

I was accepted as a member of The Wolverhampton Society of Artists in 2012.

By attending the monthly meetings, I am improving my knowledge of art and meeting like-minded people in a sociable atmosphere. I have also attended the Society’s annual painting days, which are held at various venues during the summer.

In 2016 I became a member of the committee of the WSA as a means of supporting and developing the work of the Society.

The painting was inspired by a winter walk through local countryside.
